Gingerbread mittens and fiesta men?

I don’t know how busy you have all been with your Holiday preparations, but Christmas has already started for us as my sis and bro-in law and my baby niece will be coming into town today from jolly old London!

Despite having prepared for Christmas activities already by finishing my shopping and wrapping up gifts, my Christmas baking spirit has been a little lacking. Last week, I taught some girlfriends how to use my cookie decorating tools to decorate sugar cookies (post to come, really), which was fun, but my own baking storm that I was anticipating has fizzled into…a few droplets (insert better pun here). I had baked some gingerbread cookies last week with the best intentions on decorating them…but I have been fighting off a cold that is adamantly trying to take over my body, and I slacked off a bit and haven’t decorated them until now. Oops. I am hoping that I’ll get back into the swing of things with the week to come as time is ticking and I really need to get some baking out the door! In the meantime, here’s a few things I’ve come up with:

I wanted to decorate some traditional gingerbread men, with the classic red, white and green colours. Unfortunately, I went a little overboard with the dots and squiggles, and the gingerbread dudes look a little more…fiesta then I intended. Ole!

I also intended on making a ton of these mitten cookies but ended up with only 2 pairs and 2 odds (I forgot to flip one mitt around) after I impromptu-decided to make a mini gingerbread house and used up most of my dough. I have yet to assemble that mini-house too…

My plan is to make another batch of gingerbread cut-out cookies with a ton of mittens and snowflakes, coloured in less traditional “Christmas-y” colours, and I’m hoping that I can get my behind in gear to actually make that happen before it’s the 27th of December…ha! Cross your fingers that this cold will come and go quickly!
