Christmas colour ideas

Well, I don’t know about you, but Christmas is a swingin’ over here in our household! We’ve had the parade of family visits, the shopping (we try cramming it in before we get too far into December) and, as of this weekend (photos to come), the Christmas baking. Unfortunately…our tree is a little bit lacking. Because we are typically busy visiting family over the Holidays, we have yet to invest in a large…or even medium sized tree. Currently, in our little corner by the fireplace, with a meter or so of extension cord snaking around, is our naked baby tree. I have some ornaments in storage, but because we are moving into our new house soon, I have been too lazy to decorate it and can’t be bothered to buy more ornaments because then I would have to pack and move more things…so it sits, naked with the cats enjoying its bristly, green, “toothbrush” effect on their teeth and gums…yuck. I don’t want to appear like a scrooge because I love Christmas, but unfortunately, my practical side has taken over — my apologies!

This topic got me thinking though: what kind of Christmas decor gal/guy are you? I’ve rounded up some photos to pique your interest in this topic.

Are you a fan of the classic red and green, wreaths and poinsettias?

Or are you into the cool, crisp and icy blues and silvers?

Blue Christmas
Or, you could really go unconventional and go pink! (And, yes, you can do this in real life! Sherry and John at Young House Love have a fabulous post on their pink themed tree!)

For me, I think the cover of Style at Home’s latest issue (Dec 2010) has perfected a classic Christmas feel with modern and really fresh colours!

I love the white, cool minty greens and blues with the soft gold! The combination is a lovely blend of cools and warms for me — j’adore. I am definitely saving this issue for when we (finally) purchase a full-sized tree, and when we’re not too afraid to buy ornaments for fear of moving even more things! What are your Christmas colours of choice? Do you change them every season?

P.S. In the Christmas decorating mood now? The Lettered Cottage is part of a parade of stylish bloggers’ homes and Christmas mantle decor — it’s a great way to get ideas!
