Finally, I think we are getting some summer-ish weather in Calgary! And a good way to kick off a sunny day is with photos from a Sugar Bar dessert table I designed for a party in last week.
I got a call from my clients asking for a custom Sugar Bar for an annual summer party hosted at their Calgary home. They usually have their caterers make sweets and little desserts but wanted something different this year — I love it when people get creative with a Sugar Bar!
My clients’ requirements were that the Sugar Bar consisted of pastel, “summer-y” colours of green, pink and yellow; there were at least 3 types of gummy candy; and chocolate cupcakes — done, and done.
Since this was an all-adults party, I wanted to make the design mature enough that people would not mistake it for a little girl’s party (not easy, with pastel colours). With that in mind, I stuck to a chevron and striped based theme with clean, modern font. Working with Lynnette from Swirl Cakes, we created a fun menu of chevron sugar cookies, mini lemon meringue tarts, cupcakes and truffles in hazelnut and peanut butter (at the client’s request — so yummy).
I was able to quickly snap some photos before the party got swinging, but please forgive me as the photos are very dark. The Sugar Bar was placed in a darker room than I anticipated, but I think you will all get the idea. Enjoy!
